Welcome to Spring at The Stillpoint

Spring is nearly here, and with the re-birth of life, The Stillpoint is also being re-born.
After 7 1/2 years at 6 Coral St, I am setting up a home office at Curramore.
This move will allow me to be much more flexible with appointment times, though I will still only be working part-time.
The transition will happen some time in September, and I will have direction maps available to help you find your way.
I am really excited to be moving into this new stage of my life, where I can fully explore my creativity while maintaining the work that I truly love and enjoy.
I am sure you will enjoy the beautiful setting that I am creating for my massage and reiki work, with the help of Christopher Irons my dear friend, drumming buddy and building artiste.

The Coral St space will be taken over by Steph Lister of Crystalicious Massage and another amazing healing woman, Dawn.
Contact Steph on 0447 196 984 for information and appointments.

I look forward to seeing you soon and sharing my new space with you.

Namaste
Katie

Reiki Workshops

I am expanding the way that I offer Reiki workshops to make it easier for people to get the right time.
As well as offering training in groups, I will now also offer training on a 1 to 1 basis. There will be a cost differential between the two, but it means that I can work out the time that suits you best, in both Maleny & Brisbane.
Due to the office move, I have not set any dates for workshops over the next few months, however I am happy to work out a time with you, if you would like to do some Reiki training this year. Just send me an email or call to discuss your preferences.

Energy Ball Recipe
I have had a number of people request this recipe, so I thought I’d include it this month.

Choc / Fruit / Nut Energy Balls
This recipe has been adapted from one I found in the Dec 2010/Jan 2011 edition of Delicious magazine (p140).
I endeavour to get organic, preservative-free ingredients when I can, and these balls make a great snack at work or on the run. They are dairy-free, could be gluten-free if you swap the oats for another grain and vegetarian. Oh, and very yummy!

You will need – a food processor, a large bowl and a few take-away / plastic containers.

Ingredients:

Part A
3 good cups of chopped nuts – choose which ones you like and mix’n’match
eg. 1 cup pecans or walnuts (100g)
2/3 cup cashews (100g)
100 g almonds or almond meal
2/3 cup macadamias
1/3 cup pistachios
Part B
½ cup instant porridge oats (50g)
2 tablespoons sesame seeds
2 tablespoons cocoa or cacao powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
( I don’t recommend Chia seeds as an extra – they tend to swell and then get caught in your teeth!)
Part C
2 cups chopped dried fruit – again, choose which ones you like. Dates form a good basis, craisins are yummy, but don’t use Goji berries – too hard!
eg. 1 cup pitted dates (250g)
½ cup pitted prunes (100g)
½ cup craisins (dried cranberries)
2/3 cup dries apricots (100g) (if you can find
any sulphur-free ones & good luck with that!)
2 tablespoons honey
(maple syrup – may be added if mixture too dry)
Part D
Dessicated coconut to roll & coat (about ½ – 1 cup)

Method
(You can toast the nuts in a dry frying-pan over a low heat for a couple of minutes if you like, before processing – I like mine raw.)

1. Place all the nuts in a food processor and whiz until quite fine. Remove to a large bowl, add the dry ingredients from Part B, and mix together.

2. Place the chopped, dried fruits in the food processor and whiz until quite fine.

3. Add the dry ingredients to the fruit in the food processor, add the honey and then blend together until it starts to grab together and form a paste. If it’s a little dry, add a touch more honey or a little maple syrup.

4. Put a couple of tablespoons of coconut into a takeaway container with a lid. I find it’s easiest to put a few choc balls in the coconut container, replace the lid, then shake it about to get good coverage of the balls and minimal coconut coverage of my hands, the bench and the rest of the kitchen! Also saves on coconut.

5. Moisten hands, then roll about a good teaspoon’s worth of mixture into balls and roll in coconut. You choose the size of ball you like – the smaller the ball, the more you make.

This recipe should make about 15 golf-ball size balls (way too big to eat!) or a couple of dozen cherry-sized balls.

Store the balls in the fridge, or freeze in containers – they defrost perfectly.

Warning! These are very more-ish, but also can be laxative in large quantities – eat in moderation – if you can.
Enjoy!

Handy Hints from the Clinic
These ideas have come from some recent clients.
I do recommend consulting a qualified health care practitioner before embarking on any new treatment regime.

  • Dermatitis & Goats Milk Soap: A client recently said her dermatitis had cleared up beautifully when she changed to a goats milk soap.
  • Magnesium & Vit B2 for Migraine: Another client said her chronic migraines had mostly gone, once she started taking these supplements. There is also some research eveidence to support the use of Magnesium and Riboflavin (B2) in treating migraine.

You need to see a Naturopath to discuss appropriate dosage however.
