There is a trick to learning to read - and phonics is the key!

What is Phonics?

Phonics is a system of associating the written symbols of English (the letters) with the sounds they make.
English is often perceived as a difficult language because it seems to have a very "random" system of spelling, but in fact once you learn the rules, spelling becomes quite straight forward.

To start, we have to realize that all the words we speak are made up of just 44 different sounds. We must be able to hear each of these sounds in words and be able to put these sounds together to make words, before we can read them.
It also helps to understand how speech sounds are made and to be able to make these sounds clearly ourselves. My background in Speech Therapy and Audiology has given me the skills to assist both children and adults who may need minor remedial speech correction or auditory training as part of their phonics program.
